Description

Looking for a show-stopping savory bread to elevate your next meal or impress your guests? This Garlic Parmesan Focaccia Bread Recipe is the ultimate homemade bread experience—crispy edges, fluffy interior, and bursting with bold garlic and cheesy flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups (500g) all-purpose flour

  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast

  • 2 teaspoons salt

  • 2 cups (475ml) warm water (about 105-110°F)

  • 1/4 cup (60ml) olive oil, divided

  • 4 cloves garlic, finely minced

  • 3/4 cup (75g) freshly grated Parmesan cheese

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs (optional)

  • Coarse sea salt for topping

Instructions

Step 1: Preparing the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, instant yeast, and salt. Add the warm water and 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Stir with a wooden spoon or rubber spatula until a sticky dough forms. No kneading is needed—just ensure all flour is incorporated.

Step 2: First Rise & Rest

Cover the bowl tightly with plastic wrap or a damp towel and let the dough rise at room temperature for 1 to 2 hours, or until doubled in size and bubbly.

Step 3: Second Rise in the Pan

Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish generously with 1 tablespoon olive oil. Transfer the risen dough to the pan and use your fingers to stretch it gently toward the corners. Cover and let it rise again for about 45 minutes to 1 hour, until puffed.

Step 4: Making the Garlic Parmesan Topping

Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). In a small bowl, mix the remaining tablespoon of olive oil with minced garlic. Once the dough is risen, dimple the surface using your oiled fingertips. Drizzle the garlic oil mixture evenly over the top, then sprinkle with grated Parmesan, garlic powder, herbs, and coarse sea salt.

Step 5: Baking to Golden Perfection

Bake the focaccia in the preheated oven for 20–25 minutes, or until golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and crisp. Let it cool slightly before slicing into squares or strips.

Notes

Focaccia is best eaten fresh while the crust is still crisp and the inside soft. Freshly grated Parmesan gives the best flavor, and dimpling the dough is essential for an even bake. Don’t skip the second rise—it helps create the light, airy texture that makes this bread so irresistible.
